“I’m a touring artist. I’m an artist that’s internationally known. I’m not just a local artist at this point in my career. I’m cognizant of the fact that what I do is beyond where it started. I’m trying to reach the apex of where I am now, but without turning my back on or dismissing what I’ve done before.” After nearly 20 years of releasing mesmerizing music, Talib Kweli stands as one of the world’s most talented and most accomplished Hip Hop artists. Whether working with Mos Def as one-half of Black Star, partnering with producer Hi-Tek for Reflection Eternal, releasing landmark solo material or collaborating with Kanye West, Pharrell Williams, Just Blaze, J Dilla, or Madlib, Kweli commands attention by delivering top-tier lyricism, crafting captivating stories and showing the ability to rhyme over virtually any type of instrumental. In 2011, Kweli founded Javotti Media, which is self-defined as “a platform for independent thinkers and doers.” Kweli has set out to make Javotti Media (which released his 2011 album, Gutter Rainbows, and is named after his paternal grandmother) into a media powerhouse that releases music, films and books. Niko NIKO IS… EVERYTHING Music goes through many ups and downs…Moments when artists are inspiring and innovative, and moments when the industry is creatively stagnant. NIKO IS one of those musicians that restores your faith in the artistry of music. In an age where everyone is ‘trying’ to be different; Niko isn’t trying at all, he just IS. Nikolai Paiva (NIKO IS) was born in Rio de Janeiro and moved to Florida at the age of 7. Niko has managed to create a distinctive sound and style that gained him recognition as a notable songwriter, witty lyricist, visionary and exceptional freestyer. NIKO IS, is a conceptual idiom symbolizing the many personas and identities one experiences and is reflected through his albums. NIKO IS’ recently (March 10, 2014) released his 1st compilation of 2014 “Good Blood”, a precursor to his long awaited BRUTUS LP. The title is the literal English translation of the Brazilian term, ‘Sangue Bom’. Good Blood is mostly produced by Thanks Joey apart from a cut by Krikos and a self-produced NIKO IS record. Thanks Joey invokes the continuously evolving Brazilian sample-heavy style of hip hop production, for which he has become known for. The up and coming wordsmith is fresh off forging an alliance with industry veteran Talib Kweli and his Javotti Media imprint, alongside DJ Smallz and his Southern Smoke brand. With this sort of backing and a relentless ethic to get better with every release, 2014 will be nothing short of spectacular for the big haired Brazilian. http://www.citywinery.com/boston/talib-kweli-11-7.html ![]() A holiday mash-up for the entire family, THE HIP HOP NUTCRACKER a contemporary re-imagination of Tchaikovsky’s timeless music, sets out on a third national tour following the success of two previous sold-out tours. THE HIP HOP NUTCRACKER is an evening-length production performed by a supercharged cast of a dozen all-star dancers, DJ and violinist. Through the spells cast by the mysterious Drosselmeyer, Maria-Clara and her Nutcracker prince, travel back in time to the moment when her parents first meet in a nightclub. Digital scenery transforms E.T.A. Hoffmann’s story of sugarplums into 1980s Brooklyn. This new dance work celebrates love, community and the magic of New Year’s Eve. Special guest MC KURTIS BLOW, one of hip hop’s founding fathers, will open the show with a short set before rapping the introduction to The Hip Hop Nutcracker. #WildNOutLive

"Hip Hop 911; Black Spots On My Soul " is an interactive stage play written by Queen Viv, directed by Naheem Garcia and executive produced by Cindy Diggs. The message comes to life through various art forms which include actors, dancers, singers and film clips. The script takes the audience on an intense journey highlighting social issues affecting young people and the community as a whole. The story is centered around a Scrooge-like character (Ebony) portrayed by Cindy Diggs, (Founder of Peace Boston) who is humored by the Ghosts of Hip Hop Past, Present and Future while confronting Ebony about her current attitude toward life. This play encourages its audience to take a deeper look into the need for stronger advocates for arts programs in schools, increased funding for private programs that are struggling to keep their doors open to the community and non - profit organizations with the capacity to provide quality programming that receive little to no funding for the arts. June Lyfe does it again. This is lyrical excellence right here. Give it a listen You're likely to hit replay. This is a really personal track from Big Shug paying respect to his friend and Hip Hop legend, the late Guru of Gangstarr Foundation. Really laid back beat and Shug killed it with the harmony too. ![]() I was buildin with TV Remi from Boston about the Freedom Cypher and he expressed that he enjoys the atmosphere we create and gives his support. He came through to the cypher a couple months ago for the 1 year anniversary and represented. TV Remi also expressed his interest in performing at The Formula in the future so I asked for links to his music to check out. Here's a little something I enjoyed... Let us know what you think of "Alley Smoke" off the Radio LP The Park Street Cipher that is. Not a child of mine but a product of my mind, nonetheless. Since the spark at Park Street in February, with just a few people, the cipher now going 4 months strong has developed a following of local Hip Hop artists, musicians and spectators from all over. Since we meet at prime location for passerby's and our a-alikes to easily find the "sacred 360" as Mars Jupiter calls it. These are some recent photos from the last Park St Cypha. Make sure you come out and participate, watch, listen and support on the first Sunday of EVERY month at NOON!
Stay tuned for new details about the cypha... |
