One thing I know for sure about Mac is he loves working with kids! I've known Mac for years and I can say that his leadership and teaching qualities reflect the same dedication and discipline towards dancing and deejaying. He truly loves what he does and it shows.
Every month at the Brookline Academy of Dance (136 Westbourne Terrace) from 5:30 to 9:30 you'll find Mac and his class gettin busy on the dance floor. For 3 years straight he's been hosting a monthly kids jam for his students to showcase their skills and compete for various prizes.
What Mac is doing for the youth reminds me of the humble beginnings of Wreck Shop at Lynn Youth Center, where I used to teach a B-boy workshop. (catch the play on words? work shop...wreck shop) When I got an opportunity to organize and host a showcase where we practiced and feature my students as well as other local talent I knew the same joy Mac experiences now. It's more than dancing and listening to music and its bigger than Hip Hop. It's about the connections you make with people and the relationships you build. It's about making a positive impact in peoples lives, especially young people. It's about each one teaching one another. As far as I'm concerned, anyone that helps keep kids safe and off the streets gets my respect! Wreck Shop Movement salutes you!
If anyone want to support or participate in something like this, check out the next kids jam that will be held on February 23rd from 2-5pm. at the Brookline Academy of Dance Admission is $10 and proceeds go towards continuing the jam monthly. For more info contact Mac!
Make sure you also check out his DJing skills in the mix below...
